In September, IDC estimated that the "worldwide market for smart home devices is expected to grow 23.5% year over year in 2019 to nearly 815 million device shipments." These figures are predicted to grow exponentially in the next five years, giving the customer a difficult choice when they go to purchase these products.
As consumers shop for smart home security systems, they must weigh the pros and cons of numerous products, but now these companies feel that they have found a better solution.
The four companies are calling it "Project Connected Home over IP," which creates a new standard for smart home products that will be easy to test to see if the product is compatible with the products that consumers already have in their homes.
Building upon IP will enable all in home devices to pair up even if the products are from two different manufacturers.
"The project is built around a shared belief that smart home devices should be secure, reliable, and seamless to use," the group stated in a press release.
"By building upon Internet Protocol (IP), the project aims to enable communication across smart home devices, mobile apps and cloud services and to define a specific set of IP-based networking technologies for device certification."
The companies have yet to reveal any details or a timeline of the release, but promise to announce further detail once they become finalized.
