Starting on October 2, customers will be able to relive a little bit of their childhood with a McDonald's (NYSE: MCD) Happy Meal made for adults. The fast food chain has partnered with streetwear brand Cactus Plant Market to create a Happy Meal box and collection of character toys which will be available until Oct. 30.
"One day you ordered a Happy Meal for the last time and you didn't even know it," McDonald's wrote on Facebook in September.
The Happy Meals will each include a meal and a toy. Along with new designs for the Hamburlar, Birdie, and Grimace, McDonald's is also offering a toy of a new character: Cactus Buddy.
"We're taking one of the most nostalgic McDonald's experiences and literally repackaging it in a new way that's hyper-relevant for our adult fans," McDonald's USA Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, Tariq Hassan, said in a statement.
Customers can also enter sweepstakes through the McDonald's app to win more Cactus Plant Market merchandise. A favorite for Kanye West and Pharrell, the streetwear brand is known for designs characterized by a "fluid and eccentric combination" of "playful graphic imagery." Hoodies from the brand can cost as much as $1,000.
The Happy Meals are just one of the ways that McDonald's is trying to boost sales: over the past two years, the chain has collaborated with several big-name celebrities, including Travis Scott, Mariah Carey, and the massively successful K-pop band BTS.
Taco Bell (NYSE: YUM) is also trying to cash in on customer nostalgia with its newly announced in-app voting experience. Users will be able to vote on bringing back either the Double Decker Taco or the Enchirito for a limited time. The Double Decker Taco was a staple of the chain's menu from 2006 to 2019, and the Enchirito was on the menu from 1970 to 2013.
