What Happened: Amazon's Ring is partnering with fire safety product maker Kidde to launch two new products: the Kidde Smart Smoke Alarm with Ring and the Kidde Smart Smoke and CO Alarm with Ring.
These devices seamlessly integrate with Ring's home security ecosystem, allowing users to receive real-time alerts through the Ring mobile app, the company announced at CES 2025 on Monday.
The Kidde Smart Smoke Alarm with Ring is priced at $54.97, while the Smart Smoke and CO Alarm with Ring costs $74.97. Both are set to ship in April 2025.
Ring is also introducing a subscription service for $5 per month which offers access to professional monitoring and emergency dispatchers.
Why It Matters: Ring, acquired by Amazon in 2018 for $1 billion, is best known for its video doorbells and has since expanded to include a diverse lineup of security products.
The company, under CEO Liz Hamren, reported profitability for the first time in 2023.
Amazon's move into fire safety comes as the smart home security space heats up, with Apple Inc. reportedly preparing to enter the smart doorbell market.
Apple's upcoming device is rumored to feature Face ID for facial recognition, setting it apart from Amazon's Ring, which relies on motion detection and recording.
According to Vantage Market Research, the global smart home market, valued at $75.36 billion in 2020, is projected to surpass $423.95 billion by 2028, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 24.10% anticipated between 2022 and 2028.
