Amazon.Com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) plans to launch Amazon.co.za in 2024, allowing South African-based sellers to reach customers across the country starting next year.
Starting October 17, 2023, Amazon said that independent sellers in South Africa can register their business online.
More than 60% of sales in Amazon's store are from independent sellers-most of which are small and medium-sized businesses-providing a vast selection of products, competitive prices, and great convenience for consumers, the company said.
"We look forward to launching Amazon.co.za in South Africa, providing local sellers, brand owners, and entrepreneurs - small and large - the opportunity to grow their business with Amazon, and delivering great value and a convenient shopping experience for customers across South Africa," said Robert Koen, general manager of the Sub-Saharan Africa region for Amazon.
Business houses in South Africa, like African Mamas Crafts and Reader's Warehouse, are in the queue to join Amazon's profile.
Amazon offers sellers various tools and educational content, including articles, videos, webinars, and case studies, to support their growth journey, the company added.
These resources are designed to empower sellers at every stage of their business.
Price Action: AMZN shares are trading lower by 1.86% to $130.08 on the last check Tuesday.
