In a recent development, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) has committed to the voluntary artificial intelligence (AI) safeguards set by President Joe Biden's administration.
What Happened: Along with Apple Inc., other industry giants such as OpenAI Inc., Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL), Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ: META), and Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) have also pledged to test their AI systems for potential discriminatory tendencies, security flaws, or national security risks, Bloomberg reported on Friday.
This commitment by Apple comes at a time when the company is gearing up to integrate OpenAI's chatbot application, ChatGPT, into its voice-command assistant on iPhones. This decision has stirred up a controversy with Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) CEO Elon Musk, who has expressed concerns over security and threatened to ban Apple devices from his companies if the AI software is integrated at the operating system level.
Why It Matters: Apple's AI offerings, including the ChatGPT integration, are expected to roll out gradually, with some features not anticipated until 2025.
Apple plans to integrate its A18 chip into its upcoming entry-level iPhones and iPads to enable them to run Apple Intelligence, the company's suite of AI features.
