Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL) recently announced its beat apps of 2022 on the Google Play store, with Dream by WOMBO and BeReal taking the top spots. Dream is an AI art generator type of app while BeReal is a social networking app targeted at GenZ users.
In addition to being considered a top favorite app on Google Play, BeReal won the "App of the Year" award for the Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) iOS App Store.
Some of the other top favorite apps among users on Google Play include: PetStar by Good Boy Studios Inc. ("Best for Fun"); Breathwrk by Breathwrk Inc. (Best for Personal Growth"); Plant Parent by Glority LLC ("Best Everyday Essentials"); Recover Athletics by Strava Inc. ("Best Hidden Gems"); and so on.
In terms of games on Google Play, Apex Legends Mobile was the "user's pick" and Todoist was Google's most popular app for Wear OS smartwatches. Across the board, Google has chosen over 20 categories in the Google Play store, on top of regional awards in markets that are outside of the United States.
The most popular app for reviewing issues such as mental health was The Stigma App, which is a platform on which people tend to talk about overly stigmatized issues such as mental health. In this year alone, Google has dramatically increased its number of categories, primarily for purposes of marketing. Chromebook apps such as BandLab or Roblox, are now available on select models.
Some other categories that have been newly introduced are "Best Game Story" and "Best Ongoing Game," which will hopefully call attention to the original types of games that various game developers have brought about. According to Google, its top picks will demonstrate what meant the most to users throughout 2022. It can involve methods of taking a break from reality as well as ways in which users can remain "in the moment."
