A reply to an antisemitic comment on social media platform Twitter, now known as X, by owner Elon Musk and concerns over content have led to a series of major companies dropping advertising from the platform.

This group includes The Walt Disney Company (DIS  ), which not only halted its advertisements, but took its protest a step further.

What Happened: Over the weekend, the list of companies that pulled advertising from Twitter continued to grow with Disney among those who confirmed they would stop advertising on the social media platform.

In addition to pausing its advertising on X, the company has taken its protest a notch higher by stopping all posts from its various business units on the social media platform.

As shared by The Verge, several Twitter accounts including @disney and @espn went silent on the social media platform for periods of at least 24 hours.

On Saturday, the @espn account on Twitter was silent, as were several of its other social media handles on the platform. This act of protest occurred on a day filled with numerous NCAA Football games and other sports events, a time that typically sees a high volume of posts.

The @espn account on Twitter resumed its activity on Sunday, Nov. 19, signifying a one-day silent protest against the issues plaguing the social media platform.

The @disney account on Twitter has been silent since Nov. 17.

The Verge reported that Disney and ESPN posted on other social media platforms on Saturday since its advertising ban on Twitter began.

Why It's Important: Among the companies that have paused advertising on Twitter are Apple (AAPL  ), Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD  ), International Business Machines (IBM  ), NBCUniversal (CMCSA  ) and Lions Gate Entertainment (LGF.A  ).

The advertising concerns come after a report from nonprofit Media Matters alleges that ads are showing up alongside antisemitic content.

Musk also replied to a questionable post on the platform that was widely criticized.

Musk, who acquired Twitter for $44 billion in 2022, has threatened to file a lawsuit against Media Matters over the allegations.
