DraftKings Inc (NASDAQ: DKNG) has apologized for a parlay that the app featured on Sunday night.
DraftKings shares featured parlays on its app, such as the current offerings of the "Shay Shay Parlay" which includes three betting picks from Shannon Sharpe, or the "Hard Knocks" parlay which includes four different bets on the Jets ahead of the Monday Night Football game.
But, Sunday night, DraftKings posted a "Never Forget" parlay that included the New York Mets, the New York Yankees and the New York Jets all to win their respective games Monday night. A description of the parlay read, "Bet on these New York teams to win tonight on 9/11."
After social media users shared the parlay around the X Platform (formerly Twitter) and other websites, DraftKings eventually took down the promoted parlay. One X user described the decision to promote the parlay as "insane behavior."
"We sincerely apologize for the featured parlay that was shared briefly in commemoration of 9/11," DraftKings said in a statement when Benzinga reached out for comment. "We respect the significance of this day for our country and especially for the families of those who were directly affected."
What Is A Parlay?
A parlay involves a bettor choosing several wagers, and every single one must be successful for the bettor to secure a win. For example, if someone builds a parlay of the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears to all win their respective games, and the Lions and Packers win, but the Bears lose, the bet is considered a loss. Parlays pay out significantly more than straight-up bets, which is why they are enticing for gamblers.
