The markets soared higher yet again to new highs. With no real catalyst to focus on the financial media cited "Economic Optimism" as the driving factor. Given that the markets have been moving higher on no real news this year that has been the only thing to attribute this rally to. The Dow 30 was higher by 104, the S&P 500 gained 3, and the Nasdaq 100 added 6 on the day. Earnings season is rapidly approaching which many feel will be the next real catalyst for the markets.

Target (TGT  ) announced that it killed it over the holiday sales period with sales that grew 3.4% which was 3% more than was expected. The company then announced that it would raise it's guidance well above Wall Streets forecasts. The important part of the announcement was profit forecasts which also were announced higher than predicted. The stock shot up 2.95% today on the news and volume was above average.

Under Armour (UA  ) shares fell another 4.60% today following a nasty downgrade from Susquehanna. The firm cited "poor" brand management in a bad promotional environment. The analyst lowered his rating on the stock to negative and has a price target of $11 which is projects another 26% decline from today's prices. Other comments included the analyst saying that they feel the company's brand position will continue to be weakened before it is salvaged. They suggested the company pull it's products from Kohls, DSW, and Famous Footwear.

Illumina (ILMN  ) shares were higher today on comments from the CEO about the growth in personal genome testing. The company announced a new desktop sequencer which drastically cuts the cost to only $20,000. Shares made new highs today, gaining 6.93% on the day making it the best performer in the Nasdaq 100.

In other news SpaceX launched a highly classified satellite on Sunday night but reports say that SpaceX may have actually lost it in space. The reports say that the sattelite most likely fell back to Earth, burning up in the atmosphere. Since the government agency and mission were highly classified no one is speaking up.
