Elon Musk's AI startup, xAI's Grok, has surpassed OpenAI's ChatGPT, Alphabet Inc. (GOOG  ) (GOOGL  ) subsidiary Google's Gemini, and China's DeepSeek to become the leading productivity app on Apple Inc.'s (AAPL  ) App Store.

What Happened: On Thursday, Musk shared a screenshot highlighting the achievement of Grok on X. He noted that Grok secured the top position without even launching its voice mode and additional upcoming features.

"This is without voice mode and many other features coming out in the next few days," Musk wrote.

Why It Matters: The ranking follows xAI's release of Grok 3 on Feb. 18, which introduced enhanced AI capabilities, including image analysis.

Its debut follows DeepSeek's release of a powerful open-source model, that shook Wall Street in January 2025.

Grok 3 is now available to Premium+ subscribers on X, Musk's social media platform. xAI is also introducing a new subscription plan, SuperGrok, for users accessing the chatbot through its mobile app and Grok.com.

Last year in November, Musk's AI venture reached $50 billion in valuation.

Meanwhile, Musk's investor group offered $97.4 billion to acquire OpenAI's nonprofit assets. However, the ChatGPT-maker turned down the proposal.
