Fitbit (FIT  ) and other stay-at-home fitness apps are doing better than ever with coronavirus has forced most gyms to remain closed. Fitbit Premium, their paid subscription, has reached over 500,000 members--for good reason.

Their app is designed to help guide its users through managing their activity, stress, sleep and nutrition. Fitbit is always coming out with new content, and it now includes workouts with celebrities, trainers and influencers like Ayesha Curry, Charlee Atkins and Harley Pasternak. Everything from dance cardio and HIIT workouts, to yoga and mindfulness practices can be found on the app, with brands like Aaptive, Daily Burn, POPSUGAR, barre3 and more. Add-on sleep analysis, guided programs, and personalized guidance and feedback specifically on your data to help you make better choices for your health, and this subscription has it all. Of course, no app would be complete without its social half. Fitbit premium also has games and challenges that can help connect friends and family for more motivation.

But Fitbit isn't the only app racing to be the best in home fitness. Peloton (PTON  ) also has its own fitness inspiration app, but takes it a step further, and also sells workout equipment. It has its app working in tandem with its special brand of machines, helping fitness enthusiasts bring the gym home with them. While Peloton focuses more on the balance between machines and apps, Fitbit is strictly digital. Keeping their workouts machine or equipment free as much as possible is what helped Fitbit become so popular so quickly.

And now, there are rumors that Apple (AAPL  ) is now working on virtual fitness classes to compete with Peloton, with services available through Apple devices like the iPad or AppleTV. There are also rumors they're creating a subscription bundle called "Apple One", which would combine existing services like Apple TV and Apple Music, according to Bloomberg.

While Apple doesn't have fitness equipment like Peloton (yet) it's likely they will trend more towards Fitbit's style of body weight exercises, yoga, and more. They already have a head start too, since their products like the Watch and iPhone are already used to track wellness and Apple Music puts them ahead of the curve when it comes to workout tunes. If they do put out a fitness app, they could cause some serious competition for Fitbit.
