Another day, another Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) device saved a life. The iPhone 14's crash detection feature saved a man's life whose car fell in a terrifying 400 feet fall off a cliff.
What Happened: A California man's life was saved with the help of iPhone 14's crash detection feature. After his car fell 400 feet off a cliff in the Mt. Wilson area, his iPhone 14 notified the local authorities about the crash, reported CBS Los Angeles.
"I believe that if we didn't have that good location information in a timely manner, he probably would've bled out," Mike Leum, a member of Montrose Search and Rescue, said
The man reportedly drove in the Mt. Wilson area when he fell off a cliff. That is when the crash detection feature in his iPhone 14 kicked in and notified 911 via satellite.
The local authorities found him yelling and calling for help nearly 400 feet below the road. "The location that we got from the iPhone activation was spot on," Steve Goldsworthy, Rescue Operations head of Montrose Search and Rescue, said.
"It was basically his phone on its own, calling for help on his behalf," he added.
Keep Crash Detection Enabled: This is not the first time an Apple device has saved its owner's life. Apple introduced the crash detection feature with Apple Watch Series 8 and the iPhone 14 series in 2022.
In previous instances, Apple Watches saved their owner's lives - just last month, an Apple Watch saved another life by notifying emergency services, helping him obtain timely aid.
Considering how critical this feature is in saving a life, enabling it on compatible devices is a no-brainer.
