Twitter
The tweet, made about 15 years ago ("just setting up my twttr") was bought by cryptocurrency entrepreneur Sina Estavi for 1,630.58 ether, which is equivalent to $2.9 million, last year. Dorsey converted the NFT's proceeds to Bitcoin and sent them to GiveDirectly Africa Response fund for COVID pandemic relief. The tweet was sold on a "Valuables" platform, run by Cent, which is a social media network run by blockchain.
This past Wednesday, Estavi placed the tweet on an auction that lasted for seven days, later tweeting that he planned to donate 50% of the anticipated auction money to charity organizations. According to CoinDesk, by the time the auction was finished, the highest bid was $280. Estavi can decide whether or not he would like to take or deny each of the bids. Since the auctions have been occurring on the NFT marketplace OpenSea, he has a wide array of bids that come through. At the moment, the highest bid for the tweet is $4,631, or 1.5 ether.
"The deadline I set was over, but if I get a good offer, I might accept it, I might never sell it," Estavi told CoinDesk through a WhatsApp
As reported by the BBC, Estavi, who is the CEO of the blockchain Bridge Oracle, said he "may never sell" the tweet until he obtains a "high bid" of an unknown amount. Estavi does not seem overly concerned with the tweet's drop in price, however, given that he made a tweet that stated that "maybe Elon will buy it," given that Elon Musk was recently announced as the highest bidder for Twitter this past Thursday.
