While competitors are launching new foldable phones, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) is reportedly planning a foldable MacBook that could launch sometime in 2026. While it's a little further ahead in the future, it tells us that Apple is thinking about doing bigger things with foldable displays - quite literally.
What Happened: Apple is reportedly in talks with display suppliers for a foldable MacBook. This includes companies like LG Display and Samsung Display, both of which have planned billion-dollar investments in next-gen display technology, reported Business Korea.
While this could be the first foldable device from the company, it won't be the first foldable laptop in the market. Companies like Asus and Lenovo have already introduced their foldable laptops in the market, such as the ThinkPad X1 Fold from Lenovo and the Zenbook 17 Fold from Asus.
Not The First Time: This is not the first time we are hearing about a foldable MacBook from Apple. There have been reports in the past that the Cupertino tech giant is working on a foldable MacBook.
A report in December 2022 had hinted that Apple was working on a foldable MacBook, that would offer a 20.25-inch display when unfolded.
Apple's competitors such as Samsung and Google have already launched their own foldable devices, but in the form of smartphones. According to reports, Apple is also working on its own foldable smartphone and it will be interesting to see which foldable we see first from Apple - a foldable phone or a foldable MacBook.
