The markets enjoyed another positive day today, setting new record highs, as the major indices slowly crept higher all day long. The Dow 30 was higher by 83 , the S&P 500 added 5, and the Nasdaq 100 gained 15. Tomorrow investors will get a look at manufacturing numbers along with employment change numbers, both of which tend to move the markets. Later in the day Federal Reserve Chairwoman, Janet Yellen will also be speaking.
Delta Airlines, Inc. (NYSE: DAL) shares popped 6.62% today on positive news from September travel, as well as a strong outlook going forward. This came as somewhat of a shock to investors who assumed the recent round of hurricanes would have slowed travel. The stock shot up to almost a three month high on trading volume that was above average. Thanks to the strong move today, shares of the stock are now higher on the year by 3%, and technical traders will note that the stock is officially out of it's recent downtrend. Other airline stocks were higher as well today, like American Airlines (NYSE: AAL), and Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) which gained 5.82%, and 4.54% respectively.
Lennar Corp. (NYSE: LEN) also enjoyed a positive day today, gaining 5.04% after the company reported earnings that beat expectations. The company said that it sold more houses than expected last quarter and on the conference call shared a positive outlook going forward. The company stated that they "expect an uptick in demand" following the recent hurricanes. The positive news sent shares to new highs today and are now higher by almost 30% on the year.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) shares were higher today by 1.94%, breaking a recent downtrend, despite missing production goals of their Model 3 electric vehicle. They were projected to build 1500 cars during the quarter but reported only 260 cars completed. Management blamed the miss on production issues which initially sent shares lower on the day.
