The markets were basically quiet today as the bulls and bears traded in a choppy range. The Dow 30 was higher by 115 as 20 of the 30 names traded in the green for the day. The S&P 500 was lower by 2 and the Nasdaq 100 sold off 15 on the day.
Noodles & Company (NASDAQ: NDLS) was one of the bigger gainers on the day today, popping 14% as the company reported profits that beat Wall Street's estimates. The fast casual restaurant chain guided weak going forward which stopped the bulls from pushing the stock to new highs.
Williams-Sonoma (NYSE: WSM) shares were higher by 2.5% today as the luxury cooking products company announced earnings that were better than expected. They also beat on revenue and announced forward guidance that was positive for the year. In addition to this good news, investors also will be receiving a dividend boost of 10%. The stock pushed to new yearly highs on the news as technical traders eyed the fresh, technical breakout.
Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BKS) shares shot higher by 6.25% today as the company announced a dividend of 15 cents a share. The news also included comments that they expect to see growth in this coming fiscal year. The stock has been punished in recent year and is currently sitting just off all time lows.
Dollar General (NYSE: DG) shares were higher today as the company announced earnings that were in line with Wall Street's expectations. The company guided forward quite favorably, saying that they expect earnings of $5.95 to $6.15 per share when analysts are only looking for $5.58. This is the main reason for the stocks move higher today.
