The new fab, representing an investment of approximately $15 billion, will likely inject $15.3 billion into the Idaho economy, create over 17,000 jobs, and foster a skilled, diverse workforce.
The facility will be situated alongside Micron's R&D center, fostering synergy and strategic advantages for the company and the broader U.S. semiconductor industry.
Micron's CEO, Sanjay Mehrotra, highlighted this development as a significant stride towards revitalizing U.S. high-tech manufacturing and securing domestic memory production to meet future demands.
In collaboration with the State of Idaho and the City of Boise, Micron has also pledged a $75 million investment to the Idaho Community Investment Framework over the next decade.
The new fab is environmentally responsible, aiming for 100% water reuse, recycling, and restoration and utilizing 100% renewable electricity.
It will likely commence operations in phases from 2025, with DRAM production escalating in response to industry demand. Enabled by grants and credits from the CHIPS and Science Act, this project underscores Micron's role as a technology leader and its dedication to innovation, community engagement, and environmental sustainability.
