Markets were weaker today as a comment from a Saudi oil minister sent prices lower by 4.5%. This weighed on the broad markets for the entire session. The Nasdaq 100 performed the worst today losing 67 points (-1.47%), the S&P 500 and Dow 30 lost 24 (-1.25%) and 188 points (-1.14%) respectively.Home Depot(NYSE: HD) shot up 1.37% today following this morning's strong fourth quarter earnings report. The popular Do-it-yourself home retailer beat estimates across the board and offered solid guidance going forward, while also increasing its quarterly dividend. Competitor Lows (NYSE: LOW) is set to release their earnings tomorrow morning.
United Technologies (NYSE: UTX) gave back 0.83% of yesterdays gains after the company's CEO disclosed that they rejected an offer from Honeywell (NYSE: HON) in September of last year and again last week. Yesterday shares of United Technologies surged over 3% as buyout talks hit the media.
Shares of fast casual restaurant Chipoltle Grill (NASDAQ: CMG) fell in early trade today but were able to recover by days end. An analyst at Deutsche Bank downgraded the stock and commented that "Chipoltle's same store sales have shown signs of weakness" and that now is the time to sell. Investors seemed to shrug off the analysts comments as Chipoltle closed down only 0.16%
