Pennsylvania-based snack company Tastykake has issued a voluntary recall for certain cupcakes and Krimpets after an ingredient supplier notified the manufacturer that these products could contain tiny metal fragments and mesh. After an initial recall on October 31, the company expanded the list of covered products on November 3.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published the company's notices, establishing a recall of certain multi-pack cupcakes sold in select states and Krimpets sold throughout the country.
"Affected product should be discarded or may be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund," the company stated.
Tastykake is a brand owned by Flower Foods, Inc.
Affected cupcakes may be found in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington DC, and West Virginia, and include plain chocolate cupcakes, creme-filled chocolate cupcakes, and buttercream iced cupcakes. The multi-packs covered include boxes of two to six cupcakes or boxes of six packages with two cakes per package.
Krimpets implicated in the recall include jelly-filled, creme-filled, and butterscotch Krimpets.
Products covered by the recall have sell-by dates ranging between November 20 and December 21. So far, no customers have reported any incidents relating to these products. To verify the status of a specific product, check the list of recalled items given by the FDA. There, you can also find images of the affected products as well as their lot numbers and UPC information.
In 2019, Flower Foods issued a similar recall of certain hotdog and hamburger buns after it was discovered that the products could contain pieces of plastic. That recall covered products across multiple Flower Foods brands, including Wonder and Nature's Own.
