Recently, social media platform Snapchat (NYSE: SNAP) announced its will be collaborating with Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) for a Virtual Try-on shopping experience, allowing users to virtually try on eyeglasses, while choosing from a wide selection of popular brands.
This new collaboration between Amazon Fashion and Snapchat will feature brands like Persol, Oakley, Ray-Ban, and Costa Del Mar.
Important data from Amazon, such as price changes or products that are low in stock, give instantaneous updates in the Snapchat app as users try on the eyewear. If users would like to purchase the eyewear products from Amazon Fashion, users just have to click on the Amazon Fashion "store" tab on the "@amazonfashion" profile on Snapchat. From here, users will be able to connect to Amazon to make an appropriate purchase.
Because of this collaboration, Amazon will be able to reach a greater number of customers who happen to be making purchases on mobile devices. In terms of statistics, Amazon Fashion consumers made over one billion purchases on their phones, whereas Snapchat has 363 million daily users on its platform.
"Our AR products and services are already driving a major impact at scale today as Snapchatters use our services to shop, play, learn, explore, and entertain themselves," CEO Evan Spiegel said on an earnings call. "This quarter, we announced several new valuable partnerships, innovative AR experiences, and new AR features and capabilities in Lens Studio."
In order to obtain the new Amazon AR shopping feature, there is a "Dress-Up" tab that users must discover under the Snap's Lens Explorer. As soon as users discover a pair of glasses that are suitable for them, they are able to click a link at the bottom of the screen in order to buy the item.
"With the combined innovation and technology between Snap and Amazon, we are unlocking exciting and fun new try-on experiences for hundreds of millions of Snapchatters," said Ben Schwerin, SVP of Partnerships at Snap. "AR eyewear is just the first step in our partnership, and we can't wait to continue our innovation together."
