Stocks closed the day mixed today as news of a shooting at the capitol building begins to come out. The Dow 30 gained 19 (0.11%), the S&P 500 finished flat, and the Nasdaq 100 was down 6 (-0.14%)Finish Line (NASDAQ: FINL) popped 12.27% today as BB&T upgraded the stock to a buy rating from neutral. Jefferies also lifted its price target to $24 per share. Finish Line reported quarterly earnings last week that beat on both the top and bottom lines.
Avon (NYSE: AVP) added 8.64% today as the company confirmed it has worked out an agreement with an investment group led by Barington Capital Group. Under the terms of the deal, Barington will have the right to approve the appointment of an independent director to the Avon Board.
Time Warner (NYSE: TWX) gained 3.63% today and headed closer to a potential short term breakout to new 2016 highs. The gains today come as The Time Warner-owned studio, Warner Brothers, looks to be the early winner in Batman vs. Superman. The movie recorded the fourth-largest global opening in box office history, grossing an estimated $424.1 million.
Lastly, more trouble for popular music-streaming service Pandora (NYSE: P) as it lost 12.17% today. Shares plummeted today as the company appointed co-founder Tim Westergren as chief executive officer. The changes take place immediately, along with a new, larger management structure.
