Fintech Stripe start started permitting businesses to pay their users while utilizing various forms of cryptocurrency, starting with support for Twitter (TWTR  ).

This method of payment will be used as stablecoin USDC, which are essentially tokens that are connected to the United States dollar. It will be Stripe's first connection with cryptocurrency since their disengagement from bitcoin in January 2018. According to Stripe, they made this decision based on the fact that bitcoin is especially known for its unpredictable nature and inability to be effective when making daily transactions.

Regarding this decision, Stripe said, "This will enable many people who wouldn't otherwise be able to hold dollars to do so." Some of Twitter's most common features with this new method of payment will be "Ticketed Spaces" and "Super Follows."

By introducing cryptocurrency to their platform, Twitter has expressed the desire to attract more creators who have already been experimenting in the world of cryptocurrency, such as those who have been creating and making use of NFTs. Although Twitter is not terribly keen on the creation and selling of NFTs, they are prepared for them, given that selling NFTs could assist with making trades.

According to Stripe, they will be taking care of "all crypto-related complexity and operations" in their collaboration with Twitter. Stripe's payouts feature will go through the Polygon network, which is considered a "Layer 2" solution as part of the Ethereum network for faster and less expensive transactions.

"We plan to add support for additional rails and payout currencies over time," said Karan Sharma, product manager at Stripe's cryptocurrency unit, in a press statement.

Stripe, however, is not the only monetary company to offer payouts in the form of cryptocurrency. Companies like Visa (V  ), MasterCard (MA  ), and PayPal (PYPL  ) have already all moved in the direction of having their own cryptocurrency methods of payment. Over time, however, various cryptocurrencies have decreased in value - especially bitcoin, which went down by over 40% from its valuation this past November.
