This Video Game Made History With Over 44.7 Million Players In A Single Day

Epic Games' "Fortnite" recently achieved its "biggest day" ever, with more than 44.7 million players participating in the game, accumulating a staggering 102 million hours of gameplay.

This announcement was made via Fortnite's official Twitter account, which wrote: "Way to start things off with a big bang. We're blown away by the response to #FortniteOG."

And continued: "Yesterday was the biggest day in Fortnite's history with over 44.7 MILLION players jumping in and 102 MILLION hours of play."

The day also saw the highest concurrent player count in Fortnite's history, with 6,172,463 players engaging in the battle royale action simultaneously.

The cause of this surge in player activity was Fortnite Chapter 4 Season OG, which transported players back to the original Fortnite island.

This season promised a return to the game's roots, featuring elements from Chapter 1 Season 5, including iconic items like Shopping Carts, ATKs, the Assault Rifle, and the Pump Shotgun. Despite this nostalgic journey, certain modern features such as sprinting and mantling remained accessible to players.

Fortnite OG's record-breaking success occurred amidst news of significant layoffs at Epic Games, which decided to cut 16% of its workforce, totaling 830 employees.
